About Jack Scott – The Inquest Barrister

Jack Scott is a Barrister in England and Wales with a particular focus on inquests, for which he is highly sought after. He practices out of Exchange Chambers.

He has acted in a substantial number of inquests – over 100 – including complex, high-profile and controversial cases, providing expert representation at all stages of the process.

Jack brings a meticulous and forensic approach to his work. He carefully analyses complex medical evidence, post-mortem reports and investigative material, ensuring that all relevant issues are identified and addressed. His preparation allows him to advise effectively, whether in written submissions, conferences, or at the hearing itself.

He is experienced in representing families at Pre-Inquest Reviews, Jamieson and Middleton inquests, and other Article 2 investigations. He is comfortable addressing coroners with or without a jury and is adept at navigating the procedural and evidential nuances that arise in different forms of inquest.

Jack combines this legal expertise with a compassionate and supportive approach. Years of volunteering, including as a listening Samaritan, have shaped his ability to guide bereaved families through what can be a daunting process, helping them feel informed and supported throughout.

Alongside inquests, Jack practises in personal injury and civil litigation, understanding how effective inquest representation can assist in securing evidence for potential future claims, including clinical negligence, accidents at work, and road traffic accidents. He has also been instructed by a wide range of public bodies, including health authorities, social care organisations and trades unions.

Above all, Jack is an insightful, adaptive and intelligent advocate whose approach ensures that clients receive the highest standard of representation in this unique and challenging area of law.
